Blissful Basil begins with a beautifully-written introduction of Ashley’s journey to health and veganism. She writes about her own struggle with anxiety and depression and her journey to health through food and healthy life choices. This inspiring and honesty introduction sets a tone of openness and healing that is consistent throughout the entire book.
After the introduction is a thorough “Blissful Kitchen” chapter that covers stocking a whole foods, plant-based kitchen (one of my favorite part of any cookbook) followed by the recipes.
The recipe chapters in this book are pretty straight forward: Breakfast + Brunch, Snacks + Appetizers, Pasta + Noodles filled with recipes such as, Southwest Tofu Scramble with Avocado Crisps, Pile ’em High Epic Plant-Powered Nachos, Shaved Carrot Reuben with Special Sauce, Cardamon + Pecan-Pear Upside-Down Pudding Cake, and much more.
Each of these recipes is accompanied by Ashley’s mouth-watering photography (as seen throughout this review) and a helpful set of keys, marking recipes that are gluten, soy, nut-free, etc. Ashley provides lots of variation in her recipes to accommodate dietary restrictions making this a useful and accessible cookbook for everyone.
