Remember earlier this week when I mentioned the Pumpkin Moscow Mules I was enjoying on Halloween? Well, you didn't think I'd leave you without a recipe, did you?

Of course not! I was just waiting for the perfect time.

Which is today! Not only is today Friday but it's less than a week away from Thanksgiving! And you know what that means? Food, family, and friends. To that, I say "cheers!"

Raise a copper mug and join me.

What is a Moscow Mule?

Moscow Mules are a common cocktail that originated in the 1940s. The cocktail is a combination of vodka, ginger beer, and lime. Perhaps the most iconic thing associated with Moscow Mules is the beautiful copper mugs (<<affiliate link).

These mugs became famous by its creator John G. Martin who, in an attempt to promote the new drink, went around the country asking bartenders to pose with their specialty copper mugs and a bottle of Smirnoff. These photographs were put in a collection to "prove" the popularity of the drink.

And it worked! Now nearly every bar has a Moscow Mule and most of them are served in these iconic copper mugs.

Recommended Ingredients & Equipment

I’m not typically a fan of sweet cocktails and I usually prefer my liquor straight up but there are a few times a year when exceptions must be made. And a cold November evening after a huge meal of pot pie, mashed potatoes, and Thanksgiving stuffing, while sitting around a fire and talking with your closest friends and family is the perfect exception to this rule.

Ingredients & Substitutions

  • Vodka
  • Maple Pumpkin Butter - You can use homemade or storebought but make sure to read the ingredients for any storebought pumpkin butter as they often contain honey.
  • Ginger Beer or Ginger Kombucha - I choose to use kombucha for this recipe because it makes the cocktail less sweet and boozy while providing a pleasant tanginess to the cocktail. However, ginger beer is the more common choice.
  • Cayenne
  • Fresh Rosemary

Recommended Equipment

All you need for this recipe is a cocktail shaker and Moscow Mule mugs. (<<affiliate links)
