I’m kicking off this weekend with one of my favorite recipes: this decadent AND healthy vegan Black Forest Smoothie. Filled with chocolate and cherries for a rich delicious flavor and paired with some of the best superfoods such as cacao and spinach, this smoothie has it all.
There aren’t many better way to start the day than with a Black Forest Smoothie.
Black Forest Cake is traditionally a chocolate sponge cakes that is layered with whipped cream (usually flavored with cherry schnapps) and cherries. It is a dessert I made many times in my days as a baker, yet not ever attempted to veganize. Soon, friends, I promise!
However, 27 days into the 30 day cleanse and craving a Black Forest cake, a girl’s gotta find a way to make it work. Enter the Black Forest Smoothie – a healthy version that is decadent enough for dessert and healthy enough for breakfast.
I’m happy to report, I made it work.
This Black Forest Smoothie is filled with some of the best superfoods such as cacao, coconut, and spinach for a breakfast super high in calcium, antioxidants, and natural mood boosters. Additionally, this drink is sweetened only with the natural flavors of cherries, bananas, and dates for a drink that you can feel great about drinking any time of day.
Amp up the protein by adding your favorite chocolate protein powder or throwing in some chia seeds for boosted energy.

- 2 cups non-dairy milk
- 1 large frozen banana
- 1 cup frozen cherries
- 3 tablespoons cacao powder
- 8 large Medjool dates, pitted
- 1 large handful spinach
- Cacao Nibs
- Shredded Coconut
- Cherries, halved
- coconut whipped cream
- In a blender mix together non-dairy milk, banana, cherries, cacao powder, dates, and spinach until smooth.
- Pour into two large glasses and top with desired toppings.
- Serve immediately.
