Hey friends, happy Friday!
I hope you all found joy and peace throughout your week. I’m continuing to fall head-over-heals with this beautiful crisp October weather and even more head-over-heals with these guys who make me laugh every day and stretch, push, and mold me into a better version of myself.
It’s been ages since I’ve done a Friday’s Five post, but with so many awesome things going on around me, I decided it was time to return to one of my favorite parts of the blog and share with you the things I’m lovin’ most right now. If you’re new to the blog and have no idea what I’m talking about, you can see some of my past “Things I’m Lovin’ ” here and here.
1. Camera Gear
Recently I picked up a few new things to help me improve my food photography, my most favorite being this horizontal camera mount for overhead photography as well a remote switch. Both of these help stabilize the camera, enabling a crisper, more focused picture which comes in especially hand during these gray fall and winter months in the Pacific Northwest. I’ve also gotten a few backdrops, some light reflectors, and a few new props from Goodwill. I am always looking to improve my photography skills and am loving these new accessories that make it easier and fun.
I am super late to the Pinterest game, I know, but this last month I started learning a little more about this cool image-focused search engine and the importance for my blog to give it a little love. Over the past several weeks I’ve made an effort to develop my profile some more and in that time I have seen exciting new growth for my blog. And if that wasn’t reason enough to love Pinterest, it’s also providing me all kinds of inspiration. I’ve created a entire board called “Veganize it!” which collects images and recipes from all over Pinterest that are desperately calling for a vegan make-over. One recipe at a time, I will make this world a
better vegan place.
3. My “new” kitchen
It’s been almost a year, but still I am grateful for my kitchen every single day. For over 5 years my kitchen was essentially a hallway with a dorm-size mini fridge and an oven. In that tiny space I did all my blogging and cooked for a family of four. I’m not sure how I managed that but being forced to work in that kitchen/hallway for many years has made me much more appreciative of what I have now. Everything from making coffee in the morning to packing my kids lunches in more pleasant because of this beautiful renovation and more so, blogging has become easier and more enjoyable with the little extra elbow room.
‘Tis the season to be spooky!
If you don’t already know, I LOVE Halloween. It’s got everything a holiday should have: a little bit of fright, costumes, lots of candy, jack-o-lanterns, parties, a little more fright…I mean, isn’t it great? Halloween got even cooler when I had kids and started traditions with them. Every year we add a little more tradition to our Halloween season and I love seeing my kids get excited about corn mazes and pumpkin carving. But more than anything, trick o’ treating is the best tradition of all. There is something about it that transports me right back to my childhood while simultaneously being present for their’s. It’s awesome.
This book came out in the Spring of 2015, at the height of my divorce. I was given a copy to review, which you can check out here. Because of the timing of it’s release, I never got much of a chance to try the recipes; I know, a HUGE bummer. When life began to normalize again and taking time to experiment with new foods and recipes became possible, the book had already gotten lost in my collection of vegan cookbooks. However, my boyfriend recently borrowed the book and has been cooking his way through it, which lucky for me, means I finally get to try all of Richa’s recipes without doing any work! And, of course, the food is incredible.
